Reality

‘Reality’ denotes everything that relates to the nature of our 3D physical reality (as opposed to ‘vibrational’ and other realities).

It includes galaxies and quantum particles, and everything in between!

  • ‘What Is the Field?’ is the title of an interview I was privileged to give with my friend Catherine Carrigan for the Natural Healing Show on UK Health Radio.

Catherine is a medical intuitive healer, an Amazon best-selling author and the host of the Natural Healing Show.

In this interview, we discuss many subjects related to the nature of reality, including:

    • The Field, or the Divine Consciousness that connects us all;
    • Concepts from quantum physics, including quantum entanglement and non-locality;
    • The ability that all humans have for reading information from The Field (telepathy, intuition, and other forms of Extra Sensory Perception etc.);
    • The power that lies within all humans to affect physical reality with their intentions/consciousness.

    Enjoy!

    The Power of Intention Documentary

The power of mass intention may ultimately be the force that shifts the tide toward repair and renewal of the planet.
    ––Lynne McTaggart

I’ve mentioned Lynne McTaggart so many times on this blog. And that’s for a good reason.

Just like Gregg Braden, Lynne has done so much to demystify science and explain the power that each of us holds over our lives and and the world around us––the power of intention.

And now, this fantastic documentary from Gaia offers a wonderful insight into Lynne’s work and the power of intention.

    Enjoy!

  • The relationship between consciousness and reality wasn’t something I was planning on writing about today.

But when I sat down to write this morning, it’s exactly what I felt inspired to write about. So here it is!

The aim of this post to further clarify the link between our ‘inner world’ (consciousness) and ‘our outer world,’ (physical reality).

My hope is that this clarity will give us more power to create the reality we would like to experience–whether it is more peace on earth, or greater happiness in our own lives.

    Same Thing, Many Names

Before I begin, it might help to point out that although I use the term ‘Consciousness’ in this post, you could just as easily use the words ‘Source,’ ‘God,’ or ‘Spirit’ in its place.

But consciousness is a more neutral word. It’s also one that suits the aim of this post just as well, so I’ll continue to use it here.

    Consciousness is the Container

The first and most important point I’d like to make is that Consciousness is the container that holds all of creation.

It is the place in which all of creation resides and takes place.

This idea is perfectly summarised in the following quote from The Kybalion, by the Three Initiates:

‘The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.’

Technically, though, Consciousness, as a container for all of creation, is not a ‘place’ as such–at least not in the sense of a physical location within our 3D reality.

This is because Consciousness is everything and everywhere. Therefore, It cannot be pinned down to one particular form or location.

But since this is too much even for my own mind to comprehend at this moment, I’d say just imagine that It is some sort of physical container for now.

    Consciousness is the Contents

Consciousness is also the stuff in the container.

Everything in creation, including all of the galaxies and beings, is all Consciousness expressed in different forms.

And this brings us to the next point.

    Consciousness is the Raw Material

Consciousness is the raw material from which everything in creation is made.

Our current scientific understanding tells us that everything in physical reality is ultimately energy.

Spirituality and metaphysics teach us that physical matter is energy slowed down to a slow and dense vibration.

But they also teach us that energy is a creation of focussed Consciousness. So it is ultimately Consciousness that creates energy, and through it, physical form.

It’s like the same ocean expressing itself as droplets, spray, ripples, waves and icebergs.

    Consciousness is the Creator

So far, we’ve worked out that Consciousness is the container, all the stuff that’s in the container, and the raw material from which the stuff is made.

But who makes the stuff? What is the creative force that gives rise to the manifested creation?

    You guess it: it’s Consciousness!

    Consciousness is the Perceiver

So now, we have a container full of stuff, we know who made it and what everything is ultimately made from.

But why does all of this exist and who is it for?

Yep. It’s that old Consciousness again.

What I have understood from some of the spiritual teachings I’ve encountered is that Consciousness wants to know Itself better and therefore creates things of Itself which can interact with each other and have experiences of their own.

These experiences help Consciousness to experience, learn and understand Itself better.

So the Creator is also the Perceiver, and this makes perfect sense, because our scientific understanding of reality (through quantum physics) suggests that we influence physical reality when we interact with it as observers.

So we too are creators and perceivers.

    But Why Bother?

The only question I have about all of this is, if Consciousness is all knowing, then why would It not know itself?

Why would It need to go through all this trouble to do that?

I’m not sure about the answer.

I think it could be, because Consciousness is never still and always in flux. So, there is no final settled state that It can perceive. (See next point for clarification.)

To use a tech analogy, perhaps we’re like the search engine ‘bots’ that Consciousness sends out to ‘crawl’ through the eternally evolving universe (similar to the Internet in this respect) and report back to It, so It can ‘index’ the universe.

    Who knows?

    Infinite Consciousness, Infinite Possibility

Retracing our steps back to the very first point made above shows us that everything leads to everything else and is on an infinite loop of creation, experience, perception and expansion.

So, Consciousness is infinite, and It is eternally expanding.

And we, as individuated aspects of this One Infinite Consciousness, are at the heart of this expansion, through our thoughts, desires, imaginings and creations.

    A Virtual Reality Game?

Someone somewhere (I forget. My apologies.) used a superb analogy that helped me understand things more clearly.

The analogy was that it’s just as if I were a computer programmer and I created a virtual reality game, and then, played it using an avatar or character within that game.

I can enjoy playing this character, creating and living through its many experiences and interactions, within that reality.

I am experiencing playing that character but I am not really that character.

But, and this is where it becomes more interesting, this character, in turn, can choose to do the same!

It, too, can be a computer programmer within that virtual reality.

And it can create a virtual reality game of its own and play it using an avatar.

It, too, can create and enjoy experiences within this newly created virtual reality.

And on and on it goes…

    Concluding Thoughts

First of all, thank you so much for sticking with me to the end!

I promise you, the only substance I’ve abused in the creation of this post is caffeine. I’ve just had two cups of coffee so far.

But even in my caffeinated state, these thoughts and ideas are mind-bending, to say the least.

So I can just understand how you must be feeling, if this is your first time encountering any of these ideas!

I don’t know what to do with them, or how to make sense of any of this with my physical mind.

But when I choose to just trust this knowledge with my heart, it gets a little easier.

I can understand that someone much smarter (than me in this physical body and mind) set all of this up. And They would have had a very good reason for doing so.

And I know that They did it to better know Themselves.

This tells me that it would be a good idea for me to know myself as well as I can, and to encourage others to do the same.

It also tells me that since creating and experiencing is the most important thing of all, I don’t need to worry too much about chasing outcomes out here in physical reality.

I am doing my job and adding to the experiences, and therefore serving, All That Is, no matter what I do.

It tells me that I, too, am creative and that I have power to create any reality I want (provided I learn the correct techniques and apply these diligently.)

It’s early days, but I’m working on it!

And lastly, but most importantly, it tells me that since this is all a game, I needn’t take it too seriously.

What’s more, in my soul or spirit, I have someone who is far wiser than I am, to guide the course of my journey within this experience. It/They also have my best interests at heart.

So, there’s nothing I need to worry about.

I can just relax and enjoy the ride!

  • The Secret Life of Your Heart

The Secret Life of Your Heart

‘Only from the heart can you touch the sky.’
    –Rumi

Everyone’s got one, but what do we actually know about it?

If you’re anything like me, you probably went through life thinking your heart was just an organ that pumps blood. You knew it was important, but only for this reason.

Well, it turns out that it’s not even half of what the human heart is capable of.

The human heart is nothing short of a miracle of creation!

It’s not just a versatile physical organ. It is also a powerful energy centre with astounding capabilities that we’re only just beginning to learn about.

But from what science can tell us, the heart seems to have the capacity to improve every area of our lives, and transform our world.

I truly believe that our world would be a much happier place if more people knew about the power of their hearts.

So that’s what I’ll aim to do in this post: introduce you to some of the amazing things you might not already know about your heart and its capabilities.

    Let’s Begin!

The Heart as a Hormonal Gland

In 1983, it was discovered that the heart produces the ANF hormone (see below) and was designated an endocrine gland.

Since then, scientists have discovered that the heart creates and secretes many other hormones and neurotransmitters:

Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF) – This hormone affects the blood vessels, kidneys, adrenal glands and many areas of the brain.

Noradrenaline (a.k.a Norepinephrine) and Dopamine – The main role of noradrenaline is to mobilise the body and brain for action. Some of its effects include increasing focus, alertness, and blood pressure.

You may have already heard of dopamine–it’s commonly referred to as the ‘feel good’ hormone in popular culture. This is because it forms part of the brain’s ‘reward mechanism.’

But dopamine’s main role seems to be related to motivation–making us want to do or avoid doing something. One of its other functions is to inhibit the secretion of noradrenaline.

Oxytocin – Oxytocin is commonly known as the ‘love’ or ‘bonding’ hormone–especially in the context of the love and bonding between mothers and babies.

But this hormone is known to play a part in many other processes, including cognition, learning social cues, and the formation of enduring pair bonds.

The Heart as a Second Brain

Around 1991, it was discovered that the heart has a collection of 40,000 or so neurons (nerve cells) similar to those found in the brain.

These cells form a complex nervous system with several capabilities and is now referred to as ‘ the heart-brain’.

The heart-brain is capable of acting independently of the cranial brain and nervous system, to sense, learn and process information.

It was also found to have its own memory! And it’s this memory that makes heart transplants possible.

Heart transplants require that the heart’s connections to the donor’s nervous system are severed, when it is removed before a transplant.

When the heart is placed into the body of the recipient, its connections to the nervous system take a while to form. But the heart’s memory and its own nervous system allow it to still function properly during this time.

    The Heart-Brain Connection

As you might imagine the heart and the brain work closely together and are in constant communication with each other.

But their relationship is not a case of a straightforward domination of the heart by the brain. Surprisingly, it turns out that the heart is a bit of a ‘little boss’ in its own right.

For example, it was found that the heart sends meaningful messages to the brain, which the brain understands and obeys. And the heart sends more information to the brain than vice versa.

Next, it was found that the way in which the heart communicates with the brain influences how we perceive and respond to the world around us.

Researchers from the HeartMath Institute report that our heart’s rhythms affect the brain’s ability to process information.

They also found that the heart has a mechanism through which it can communicate with the brain and inhibit the brain’s electrical activity.

Accordingly, positive emotions can increase the brain’s ability to make good decisions and vice versa.

If that wasn’t enough, it was even discovered that the heart has its own form of ‘logic’ which often differs from that of the autonomic nervous system.

    What a little boss!

The Heart as an Emotional Centre

It isn’t clear to me at the time of writing, if the heart is a centre from which emotions originate.

But we’ve all had that feeling in our hearts, and felt it beating faster, during states of heightened emotion.

And studies have shown that the signals sent from the heart can influence emotional experience.

Based on the above, it’s safe to say that the heart does play a role in experiencing emotions, if not in creating them.

    The Heart’s Magnetic Field

The human heart generates an electromagnetic energy field that envelopes the body and extends outwards.

It is the strongest electromagnetic field produced by the human body and is much stronger than that produced by the brain.

Researchers at the HeartMath Institute claim that this field can be measured from several meters away.

The heart’s magnetic field changes according our emotions and is thought to be a carrier of information, as other people are able to pick up information about a person through their interaction with this field.

For example, in one study, it was demonstrated that a mother’s brainwaves can synchronise to her baby’s heartbeat, even when they’re a few feet apart.

    The Heart’s Role in Intuition

Researchers at the HeartMath Institute also believe that there is a connection between the heart and human intuition.

A study conducted in 2000 by the Institute of Noetic Studies involved showing participants a set of random images that were designed to elicit a negative or calming effect on them.

This study found that the participants’ autonomic nervous systems were responding even before they actually saw the pictures!

The HeartMath Institute attempted to replicate and expand on this study in a follow up study of their own.

In their findings, they report that while both the heart and the brain of the participants seemed to be receiving and responding to the pictures before the computer had even randomly selected them, the heart seemed to be receiving the information before the brain did.

Accordingly, they express the view that:

‘…the physical heart is connected to a field of information not bound by the classical limits of time and space.’

My suspicion is that ‘the field’ they refer to is the same one I wrote about in my previous post.

    Dying of a Broken Heart

A 2014 study found that there is an increased risk of heart attack (and stroke) in the month following the death of a spouse or partner.

Sadly, some people really do die of a broken heart.

Change of Personality in Heart Transplant Recipients

As reported in this study, some heart transplant recipients have seen a change in their personality and abilities following a transplant.

In this story, a recipient who was a novice level artist took on the abilities of the donor, who was an accomplished artist, following a heart transplant.

    Concluding Thoughts

Much has been said about the human heart throughout history and it has been viewed as an important part of our makeup.

But this is not necessarily due to the central role it plays in keeping us alive.

It seems as though our ancestors somehow knew about all the other amazing things about the heart that we’re only now beginning to discover.

And it looks like phrases such as ‘listen to your heart’ and ‘follow your heart’ have so much more truth to them than we ever believed.

Most of the information in this post is based on material obtained from the HeartMath Institute, and on a paper by psychiatrist, Professor Mohamed Omar Salem, titled ‘The Heart, Mind and Spirit.’

  • The Field

    The Field

‘Behind every atom of this world hides an infinite universe.’

    –Rumi

Many spiritual traditions hold at their core the idea of a Divine Field of Consciousness, from which all of creation springs forth.

Take for example the concept of ‘Brahman‘ from the Hindu religion–the idea of the One Cosmic Mind or Consciousness that contains all of creation.

Many other popular traditions, such as Metaphysics and Hermeticism, also reflect this understanding in their concepts of ‘Source’ and ‘All That Is.’

According to these traditions, everything originates from this Source, and ultimately, returns to It.

All people, events and things are connected together through this Field of Consciousness, across all of time and space.

And you and I are part of It.

As we will discover, these ideas have some staggering implications for human potential and for our future.

    The Implications

The first implication that follows is that we, as individuated aspects of the One Consciousness, have the ability to access and read the information contained in this Field.

Accordingly, we can potentially even access events that took place long before our birth; events that will occur long after our deaths, and events in the present that are happening in far off places (see the section on Remote Viewing below).

Also, since the Field is the repository of all knowledge and information, through it, we can access the answers to all of our questions and the solutions to all of our problems.

And if that wasn’t enough, the other, and even more profound implication, is that we can also influence and re-write that information with our consciousness!

So, not only do we have the power to access and observe these events, we also have the power to influence their outcomes and alter their trajectories.

    What Science Says

Science seems to be catching up and coming to a similar understanding–especially within the field of quantum physics.

This could be why the Nobel Prize winning physicist Neils Bohr said,

‘If quantum mechanics hasn’t profoundly shocked you, you haven’t understood it yet.’

Quantum physicists talk of a Zero Point Field (also called the Quantum Vacuum) which can be described in similar terms to the ‘Brahman’ of the Hindus, and the ‘Source’ and ‘All That Is’ of other traditions.

It is a field with ‘nothing’ in it but is still not ’empty’. It is seething with energy fluctuations and with quantum particles flickering in and out of existence. And all matter originates from this Zero Point Field.

Some scientists believe that we may one day be able to harness unlimited energy from the Zero Point Field.

Noble Prize winning physicist, Max Planck summarised the connection between the Field of Consciousness and physical reality as follows:

‘All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together.
We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.’

    Quantum ‘Spookiness’

Phenomena in the quantum world such as ‘quantum entanglement’ and ‘non-locality’ help to further reinforce the ideas held by spiritual traditions.

Quantum entanglement is where two quantum particles become entangled or joined in some way, they stay connected through time and space.

Non-locality is a term which describes the phenomena where quantum particles that are once entangled behave as if they’re not separated, even though they might be separated by distances of thousands of miles.

A stimulus applied to one particle has an instant effect on the other, with no delay of time to account for the distance. These responses are thought to happen at speeds faster than the speed of light!

While such phenomena might seem unusual according to the laws of standard physics and our understanding of how the universe usually works, it becomes easy to explain when you factor in the Field.

The Science of Mind Influencing Matter

As I detailed in my post: Scientific Evidence That Proves We Create Our Own Reality, the work of other scientists, such as that of Robert G. Jahn of Princeton University’s PEAR laboratory has shown that human consciousness can influence physical events though clear intention, and that it can do so even at a distance.

    Psychic Spies

The work of scientists Russell Targ and Harold (‘Hal’) Puthoff in the field of Remote Viewing has demonstrated the ability of humans to remotely access information about specific locations.

My belief is that remote viewers are able to access this information because the Field acts as a cosmic wifi.

Since all information is contained within the Field, when humans are able to tune into it, they are able to retrieve information from It.

The Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) ran a remote viewing project from 1972-1977. Both Targ and Puthoff were involved in this project.

This was followed up by a project run by the Defence Intelligence Agency (D.I.A), codenamed ‘Star Gate’ and later renamed ‘Grill Flame’ which ran from 1985 into the 1990s.

While we may not come to know all the details surrounding these operations, a declassified report dated 22nd September 1995 by the American Research Institute titled ‘An Evaluation of The Remote Viewing Program: Research and Operational Applications‘ confirms at page two of the Executive Summary that:

‘A statistically significant laboratory effort has been demonstrated in the sense that hits occur more often than chance.’

What I gather from this is that more of the trials were successful than if it were simply a matter of lucky guesses or chance.

On a lighter note, the movie, ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats, offers a fun and lighthearted glimpse into some of these operations.

    Some Concluding Thoughts

And so, while science and the mainstream have been somewhat slow to catch on, there is no denying that there is an ever-growing body of evidence pointing to the existence of this Field of Consciousness, its magical properties and our ability to communicate with it.

I have come to understand that the key to interacting with the Field, and to reading and influencing It, lies in our emotions and our intuition.

This is what excites me the most and is what I would like to share with you in future posts.

This post then, is a primer to pave the way for those posts which will relate to more specific areas of this fascinating subject.

I hope I have managed to pique your interest and that you would like to learn more about The Field and about your magical abilities in relation to It.

    Resources

Once again, many of the ideas discussed in this post are based on the work of author Lynne McTaggart and her wonderful books, ‘The Field’ and ‘The Intention Experiment’.

I would strongly encourage you to check out her work and her public talks on Youtube.
