Reality

‘Reality’ denotes everything that relates to the nature of our 3D physical reality (as opposed to ‘vibrational’ and other realities).

It includes galaxies and quantum particles, and everything in between!

  • How to Vote for True and Lasting Change

How to Vote for True and Lasting Change

Time magazine says, ‘2024 is not just an election year. It’s perhaps the election year.’

In an article published late in 2023, it states that at least 64 countries, plus the EU, will hold elections in 2024. The article estimates that this represents around 49% of the world’s population.

It’s no secret that people everywhere want better lives for themselves and a better world for us all. And they see elections as their only way of achieving this.

And so, they’re willing to do a lot more than simply vote! They’re happy to invest their time and energy in many other ways.

They donate money and attend rallies. They follow the news and watch the political debates.

Some volunteer their services and help their favourite candidates to campaign. And some even lose friendships arguing about who should win!

We have billions of people, with a myriad of differing views and opinions, yet with a couple of things in common: they’re hoping that someone else will come and save the day for them; and they see the ballot paper as their golden ticket to a better tomorrow.

Time and time again, they fervently pin their hopes on a political messiah who promises them the world. And time and time again, they vote in earnest, only to be bitterly disappointed, not too long after.

There are at least three ways in which we could view this situation: the logical way; the cynical way; and the spiritual/metaphysical way. Let’s take a quick look.

    The Logical

On the one hand, and in fairness to the elected candidate or party, whatever mess the country and the world is in right now, it took a whole lot of people a whole lot of years to create.

We’re talking millions of people over decades, if not centuries.

So how fair is it to expect the newly elected handful to clean up the mess they just inherited, and to do so in just a few years?

    But wait, there’s more logic!

    Someone once defined insanity as:

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Yet isn’t this what countless voters have done over centuries? And with precious little to show for it?

Things only seem to get worse, election after election. Yet people are still obsessed with this process and insist on repeating it. Insane!

    The Cynical

Some bright spark (often thought to be Mark Twain) once said:

If voting made any difference they wouldn’t let us do it.

    I’m inclined to agree.

I don’t mean to say that the political process is entirely without merit. And I’m not saying that people shouldn’t bother voting at elections.

But I am saying that elections don’t necessarily change things for the better.

And I am saying you don’t need to wait four years at a time to vote for change. No, sir.

    The Spiritual and Metaphysical

Voting doesn’t only happen at elections. You may not realise, but we vote every minute of every day.

    Thoughts create reality, remember?

So, with every thought we think, we are, in fact, voting for the kind of world we want to live in.

That’s the level of power that you and I have. And we don’t need anyone’s blessing or permission to use it.

But if we’re thinking the same thoughts and doing the same things, year after year, then we’re not voting for change at all.

We’re actually voting to keep things exactly as they are!

And if we pin our hopes on others, as we’ve done in the past, then we’re not voting for change either.

And most importantly, if we don’t accept our responsibility to do what we can do to change ourselves for the better, and insist, instead, to hold others responsible for the state of our lives and our world, then we’re definitely not voting for change. And so, nothing will change.

    Nothing changes unless we do.

Change happens from within. And we must change in order for our lives and our world to change.

It’s ok if it’s too much to ask of ourselves to change. I get it, we all have so much to deal with. But in that case, let’s admit to it and not act all surprised when change doesn’t come.

    True Power

True power to effect lasting change lies with us, the people. Yet sadly, most of us seem unaware of this basic truth, or forget too easily.

And we’re far too ready to give our power away–often to the very people who mean to deceive and oppress us.

This happens time after time, election after election and generation after generation. Insane!

True power lies in our thoughts and intentions, because thoughts creates reality. But again, the vast majority of us remain unaware or unwilling to engage at this level.

And so, we continue to tell the stories our grandparents told, thereby (unwittingly) perpetuating the problems and suffering of old.

We continue to believe the same falsehoods and limitations, and to harbour the same fears and prejudices, thereby dooming ourselves to more of the same.

And we still wonder why things are the way they are! Insane!

    A Spiritual Revolution

But as with every problem, there is always a solution. And the solution is simple:

Stop doing what is not working and look for something that does!

Elections have a lousy track record for bringing about any real and lasting change.

Revolutions, on the other hand, seem to fare better–at least in the short term. But the rot still sets in, eventually, because the change is superficial. A change will not last for long if the thinking and the consciousness behind it hasn’t changed.

But I’m not advocating for violence or bloodshed. Perish the thought!

I’m proposing a spiritual revolution, instead.

A revolution that is 100% peaceful (and no donations required–just an investment of time).

I’m not a history buff, but I don’t think we humans ever tried one of these.

I mean, the hippies sort of tried, but they were hijacked and sidetracked with the drugs and ‘free love’ side of things. So we’re still in virgin territory here.

I say it’s time for a spiritual revolution. And it’s time for Human 2.0.

Spiritual practices like meditation have been scientifically proven to work, and you can start today, from the comfort of your armchair.

Plus, there are zero downsides to them but an infinite upside. So there’s no excuse not to do it.

    The ‘How’

It starts with educating ourselves and understanding our true role in all of this. We have to understand the power we have within us to create our own reality. We can then act, from a place of power, clarity, and wisdom.

When we learn the lessons that spirituality and metaphysics can teach us, we realise, that in order to create and experience a happy, peaceful, loving world, we must become these very things.

We also understand that if enough people commit to changing their inner worlds in this way, our outer world too, would change as a result.

So maybe it’s time to ditch the rallies and the debates and time to start praying and meditating instead?

At worse, nothing will change and we’d be no worse off that all the generations that have gone before us.

But on the other hand… we might just end up changing the world!

  • It might seem an idea more suited to the realm of science fiction than science, but nevertheless, even science now gives us clues as to our amazing ability to affect the world around us with just our thoughts and intentions.

Ironically, it was early science and philosophy which originally seemed to suggest that we couldn’t do so.

Newtonian physics seemed to suggest that the world was a large machine that operated independently of us and that we were mere spectators to its activities.

Sure, we could participate and affect things out in the physical world, but only by intervening physically.

And René Decartes’ mind-body dualism suggested that mind and matter were two separate and distinct things, with the implication that one couldn’t affect the other.

But, as our scientific enquiries and knowledge progressed, these ideas have had to give way to the mounting evidence that suggests otherwise.

Though much of what follows has been known for decades, if not longer, we still seem to be at the dawn of the age where it’s no longer heretical to suggest that mind and matter are linked and able to influence each other.

I pray that we will live to see a breakthrough in our understanding during our lifetime. It would be the quantum leap we sorely need to take us to Human 2.0.

But for now, let’s take a look at what we do know and what we have learned so far. And let’s review some of the evidence which proves that we do have the ability to create and influence physical reality.

    The Placebo Effect

This is the most widely-known idea from this list and therefore something we’re all probably familiar with.

Placebos are fake medications (often sugar pills) used in drug trials as a way of testing the effectiveness of the drug being trialled.

They’re given to some of the participants who believe they’re taking the real medication.

The researchers then compare the effects of the drug against the effects of the placebo to see how effective the drug has been.

But often, and surprisingly, the placebo produces similar beneficial effects on the health and condition of the participants who take it, compared to the drug.

For example, in a study with patients experiencing Irritable Bowel Syndrome, placebos demonstrated positive effects in 40-50% of the cases.

In such cases, we know it wasn’t the sugar pill that caused the effect.

We then have to conclude that the positives outcomes were somehow connected to their belief that they took the actual medication, and the belief that this medication would improve their condition.

Even more astonishingly, placebo surgeries (or ‘sham surgeries’ as they’re also called) have also shown to have similar effects.

In sham surgeries, the patient is anaesthetised and a cut is made and then sutured up. But they do not undergo they actual surgery that they believed they would be undergoing.

    Nevertheless, their health improves!

Some experts caution that placebos cannot ‘cure cancer or reduce your cholesterol levels’ and will only work on symptoms controlled by the brain (such as pain levels).

It is beyond the scope of this blog post (and my scientific knowledge) to explore a comprehensive critique and rebuttal on the effectiveness and validity of placebos.

But it’s clear that placebos have a positive effect and that they therefore warrant further scientific investigation.

I will end this section with a quote from Dr. Alia Crum and invite you to watch her Ted Talk linked below:

‘Our minds aren’t passive observers, simply perceiving reality as it is. Our minds actually change reality.’

–Alia Crum, assistant professor of psychology and director of the Stanford Mind and Body Lab

The Observer Effect in Quantum Physics

According to our classical model of physics (or ‘Newtonian Physics’), atoms make up all matter.

These atoms are made from sub-atomic particles, such as protons and neutrons, which in turn, are comprised of smaller particles, or ‘quanta’, such as quarks. Quantum physics deals with matter at this most basic level of atomic and sub-atomic particles.

Although the universe seems to behave quite predictably and independently of our minds at the larger, Newtonian level, things seem to change at the quantum level.

‘But why does that matter?’ you ask. A particle is still a particle, isn’t it?

Well, apparently, it isn’t. Not at the quantum level.

Quantum particles have been shown to behave both as particles, occupying a specific place, and, as waves, spread out over several places at once.

And the form they take at any given time depends on how and whether we’re ‘observing’ or measuring them.

It is the act of measurement or the intervention of our consciousness that determines their state.

This is therefore referred to as the ‘observer effect.’

The observer effect has been demonstrated time and time again, through the double slit experiment.

Here, particles, usually single electrons or even photons, are fired one by one at an opaque screen in which there are two closely placed, narrow, vertical slits.

Behind this screen is a sheet made of a medium which can record the impact of these particles.

Based on how particles usually behave, what you’d expect to see on the last screen are two lines or bands where the particles made contact.

But instead, what they saw were several bands, which is what you would see if you were shooting waves at the slits. This is because the waves would go through both slits at the same time and collide, or ‘interfere,’ with each other, causing what is called an interference pattern.

The physicists were baffled and wanted to see what was going on and so, they placed a monitoring device behind the screen, close to one slit and ran the experiment again.

This resulted in a pattern of just two bands being recorded (and not an interference pattern of many bands, as before), suggesting that it was particles making it through these slits, one at a time, and not waves.

And the conclusion the scientists reached was that the act of observing or measuring caused what was originally something that existed in a state of multiple possibilities (wave or particle) to ‘collapse’ into a particle-state, upon being observed.

What this could imply is that we create reality by interacting with it using our consciousness.

We cause it to arise out of the ‘quantum soup’ and solidify, just by observing it!

    Heart Field Influence

Research at the Heart Math institute discovered that our hearts generate a strong electromagnetic field. This field is believed to be the strongest electromagnetic field generated by the human body.

Researchers found that the more ‘coherent’ or the more emotionally positive and relaxed a person was, the stronger their electromagnetic field was.

Scientist have measured this field extending up to three meters around us.

They also discovered that the electro-magnetic field generated by one person’s heart can be detected by the hearts and brains of those around them.

For example, in a 2007 study, they found that a baby’s heartbeat was detected in the mother’s brainwaves.

Researchers believe that our heart’s electromagnetic field can influence others around us, especially their feelings and emotions, and said that:

‘This preliminary data elucidates the intriguing finding that the electromagnetic signals generated by the heart have the capacity to affect others around us.’

So we’re literally changing and affecting the world around us with every beat of our hearts!

    PEAR Experiments

A Random Event Generator is an electronic device that can behave like a virtual coin toss. It can randomly generate states akin to ‘heads’ or ‘tails.’

Scientists at the Princeton Engineering Anomalous Research (PEAR) laboratory conducted studies to determine if human operators could influence the machine to generate more of their preferred state of heads or tails.

The expected score for either state, if only chance operated, would be 50%. However, the studies found that some operators were able to produce a score of 51-52% in their favour.

Although we wouldn’t regard an increase of 1-2% as anything significant, in the world of science, it’s regarded as ‘statistically significant.’

Lynne McTaggart points out in her excellent book, ‘The Field’, that it’s not only the percentage that matters. You also have to consider the odds of obtaining such a result, if only pure chance was at play.

According to McTaggart, if you combined the data from all the REG trails she refers to in her book in what is called a ‘meta-analysis,’ where you pool all of the data, the odds of achieving the scores achieved by mere chance alone are a trillion to one!

There have been other variations of the REG experiments. With these, researchers found that:

    • Baby chicks could cause a robot which they thought was their ‘mother’ to come towards them more often than not, though it was programmed to venture about in random patterns.
    • Some people had a ‘signature effect’, which meant they were more likely to secure similar results across a number of experiments.
    • Some people had a negative effect and produced more of the results that were in opposition to what they intended.
    • Some people formed a coherence with the machine and their scores improved the more they worked with that machine.
    • Lastly, and perhaps most significantly, couples that had a special bond had a stronger intention effect than individuals.

So again, there is certainly a lot of food for thought and a justifiable need for further investigation. Who knows what other amazing insights further research will uncover?

I would like to close this section of the post with a quote from McTaggart’s book, The Field:

‘The US National Research Council also concluded that the REG trials could not be explained by chance.’

Group Meditation and the Lowering of Crime and Violence

In this section, I’d like to share some studies involving group meditation and their effect in lowering violence and crime rates.

International Peace Project in the Middle East, 1983

This study proposed to test the theory that by reducing societal stress in the underlying ‘collective consciousness’ through group meditation, they could lower the rate of violence.

The hypothesis was that if enough people collectively stimulated and experienced a sense of peace within, that it would have a positive effect on the behaviour of people throughout society.

A group of participants based in Jerusalem, practiced the Transcendental Meditation technique developed by the Maharishi International University with the aim of reducing violence in Israel and nearby, Lebanon, during the months of August and September 1983, at the height of the war in Lebanon.

The results showed that progress towards peace, characterised by reduced war deaths, injuries and bombings etc., fluctuated in line with the number of people who were meditating as a group.

It showed that the more people there was meditating at any time, the greater the progress towards peace.

I highly recommend that you watch this short (but wonderful) talk by Dr. John Hagelin on this study. It’s just four minutes long.

In this presentation, he states that:

‘There is far more evidence that group meditation can turn off war like a light switch than there is evidence that aspirin reduces head ache pain.’

According to Dr. Hagelin, the above study was successfully replicated by seven other groups over the course of the next two years.

The TM Crime Prevention Project in Washington D.C., 1993

Dr. Hagelin and others conducted another study, this time in Washington D.C., USA in 1993.

A group of around 800 meditators participated in the project, which took place from 7th to 30th July.

It was overseen by a diverse (and unbiassed) group of academic experts and the group of meditators included a member of the local police department.

The researchers, going by previous studies, predicted a lowering of violence and crime by 20%.

The local police chief, used to seeing an escalation in the rates of violence during the Summer months, is reported to have said that the only thing likely to decrease crime and violence was 20 inches of snow!

Nevertheless, the study recorded an impressive result:

A 23.3% reversal in the predicted violent crime trend!

Many other studies on group meditation and group prayer/intention have been conducted with similarly encouraging results.

One study was conducted by Lynne McTaggart in Sri Lanka, in 2009. I will probably cover this in a separate post, but you can read about her study here: The Peace Intention Experiment.

    Conclusion

Scientifically speaking, it’s hard to say just how connected we are and how much our thoughts and intentions affect reality.

Spiritual, metaphysical (and even some religious) sources seem to say that it is absolute. That we are all connected and we do have the power to create and influence reality, if not totally, then at least to a considerable extent.

But with science, there is the issue of just how advanced our technology is.

The best instruments at our disposal today may not be sensitive enough or capable of measuring the things we want or need to be measuring.

With the world of medicine, there is the obvious problem that a lot of the research is funded by the pharmaceutical companies, which rely on the sale of medications for their sustenance and profits.

You have to wonder how happy they would be if it were suddenly proven scientifically, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that we don’t need their drugs and medications to stay healthy or heal.

So could we expect them to fund research aimed at proving this very thing?

Also, science and academia have rigorous rules which need to be followed–and for good reason.

But these rules and conventions can sometimes stand in the way of scientific progress.

Besides, those who are heavily invested in the status quo cannot be blamed for doing their best to protect it, when faced with ideas that threaten it.

And again, we have to consider the issue of funding. Who would want to fund something they perceive as being ‘woo woo‘ or would threaten their career?

And what if there was no financial profit or academic benefit to be gained from such research to the individual decision maker?

And what if, at the same time, there was a risk of ruining one’s career by pursuing a certain line of enquiry? Who would be mad enough to still go ahead?

So, we have to accept the fact that not every scientist would be brave enough to risk their reputation in order to champion an idea whose time has come.

And it’s understandable. They may have kids to put through college or a mortgage to pay.

Ultimately, we have to accept that what we know, is probably far short of all that we could be knowing at this point.

But that’s ok, because we at least know that our thoughts, beliefs and intentions matter. We know that they have the power to affect people and events in the external world; and that we should be far more careful and discerning about what we think and believe, and about what we allow into our lives.

    Resources

Many of the ideas discussed in this post are based on the work of Lynne McTaggart and her wonderful books, ‘The Field’ and ‘The Intention Experiment’.

  • How to Create the Reality You Want

How to Create the Reality You Want

‘You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?’
    –Rumi

When the Sufi poet Rumi said the above, I think he was referring to the fact that, having the power to create and manifest the reality we want, most of us choose to ignore this power and struggle through life, creating so much unnecessary suffering for ourselves.

But I have learned that knowing isn’t enough. We have to apply what we know and do so consistently. And this is where most of us fail.

We humans don’t exist in a vacuum. We’re always surrounded by influences ranging from friends and family, the wider public, the news and entertainment media and so much else.

Thoughts create reality, and if we don’t actively guide our thoughts, then we take on the programmed thoughts of the masses and end up creating a reality we don’t even want to experience.

The spiritual teacher Abraham points out that everything is always changing and reality is always being created anew (remember, nothing rests and everything is constantly in a state of vibration).

But most of us are living life on autopilot and don’t do much to deliberately change our thinking.

We keep thinking the same thoughts and feeling the same feelings on a daily basis.

And so, we’re creating the same reality over and over again.

    As the saying goes:

    ‘Nothing works unless you do.’

Therefore, it’s up to us to decide which way we want to go and then make a commitment and do the work.

    So, let’s get to work!

    Backgound

In previous posts, we explored the following ideas:

    • That all of creation is consciousness in different form and states of being/becoming;
    • That thoughts create reality and our outer world is a reflection of our inner world;
    • That we’re able to influence and change reality through a corresponding change in our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and expectations; and
    • That the Law of Attraction brings us more of what we give our attention to (wanted and unwanted), and creates momentum.

In this post, we’ll focus on the last two points and explore a few processes that will help us to use our creative powers to create the reality we want to experience.

    The General Process

The general process for deliberately creating reality contains two main elements:

    • Using the power of our imagination to envisioning the reality we want to create and seeing it as already having come to pass; and
    • Feeling the good feelings associated with this state.

But there are many subtleties and nuances relating to the above which I’d like to clarify.

    Focus on the desired outcome
We have to focus on what we want. Not on the absence of it, or the opposite of it (as in, ‘I want to be rich’ and not ‘I don’t want to be in debt’).

It has to be framed in the positive and in the present tense.

    Create a clear vision
The clearer the better. The rule of thumb is to be as clear, detailed and specific as we can be, while still feeling good (eager, enthusiastic and optimistic etc.).

    See it as already done
We have to see the end result. Not the journey or the steps toward it. And not the work we have to do to get there.

    Imagine and feel
We must imagine what it would feel like and allow ourselves to feel those good feelings.

These positive feelings are the key ingredient that breathes life into our dreams and desires.

Bring it into our lives in every possible way
We must fully own the reality and bring it into our lives in every way possible.

We have to, ‘Take mental possession,’ as Wallace D. Wattles advised.

We must cultivate a healthy obsession with the subject: think about in it in pleasing ways, and talk about it with someone supportive in ways that make us feel good.

Prepare for it and act as if
Aside from the internal/mental work, there are things we can also do on the physical plane to help move things along.

I came across a story (I’m sorry, I forget the source. I think it was a ‘The Secret Success Story’) about a lady who wanted to attract a loving partner into her life. And while she did the other things mentioned above, she also did the following:

    • She started parking her car on one side of her two-car garage, so that there was a clear parking space for her partner’s car.
    • She cleared out one side of her closet to make space for his clothes.
    • She also started sleeping on one side of her bed, so there was space for him.

She physically prepared for his arrival, while doing her inner work on the mental plane.

We could do things like buy our favourite item of clothing in a smaller size, in anticipation of losing weight and toning up, or buy a ‘thank you’ card for our boss and colleagues, in anticipation of finding that new job.

We can be as creative as we like, but please don’t be reckless with your health or your money. Be safe and use your common sense when taking these steps. Consult a professional advisor, if in doubt.

    Become that person
Some teachers make it clear that we attract, not so much what we want, but who we are on a regular basis.

So we need to assume the identity of the person who is living what we say we want.

It may not always be practical do this all the time, but we can usually do it for at least part of the day or even once in a while.

So, if we want to buy a new car, we could visit the showroom and look at the models–even before we have the money to purchase it.

We could discuss the features with the salesperson and decide on the options and the interior we want.

We can take steps like this without committing financially or doing anything drastic. And it will still help to bring our desire into physical manifestation.

    Take inspired action
When we do any of the above on a regular basis, we will feel an urge to take action at some point.

Also, the perfect opportunity might present itself to us.

When this happens, consider it a cue to jump in and take action!

This sort of action will feel good while we’re engaged in it. It will also yield better results than action taken without first mentally lining up the energy.

    The Processes

There are countless processes that have been taught throughout the ages for creating the reality we want.

Books like The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne, and Ask and It Is Given, by Abraham and Hicks cover most of them.

The ‘Success Stories’ section of the The Secret website is also chock full of the all the creative ways in which people have used the teachings contained in the book and movie to create their own reality.

You’ll probably want to try out a few and see which ones work the best for you and what you’re most comfortable with.

But regardless of the actual process you employ, the underlying idea is always the same:

We have to focus our imagination on what we want to experience and feel the positive feelings we’d feel when this desire manifests in our reality.
And we have to do this consistently.

I will probably cover the following (and other techniques) in greater detail sometime in the future. But for now, let’s whizz through just a few techniques and processes you can begin to apply right away.

    Visualisation

This is a technique that most Law of Attraction teachers recommend, and with good reason.

The vision, coupled with the good emotions are said to turbo-charge the creative process and deliver excellent results.

There are three important points to remember in relation to this process:

    1. You must frame the vision as the end result as existing in the present tense.

So see yourself as already having what you want, instead of working towards it.

And, imagine you’re already experiencing the desired reality now. Not ‘some day’ or in the future.

    2. The clearer the vision, the better it works.

Be as specific as you can, while feeling good.

If the details make you feel uncertain or unsure, then zoom back out.

‘Go general’ and leave the troubling details for later.

    3. The more you can involve your five senses, the more effective the process will be.

So, try to hear the associated sounds and smell the scents etc. and aim to create a sensory-rich experience.

The ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ Game

As discussed above, we have to begin to imagine the reality we want, in order to create and experience it.

And we have to give it enough airtime, so that we can feel the good feelings that we’d experience when this desire materialises into our physical experience.

But usually, that change is too far for our minds to stretch, at least at the start.

Plus, there’s a good chance that our inner ‘BS meter’ would kick in with objections and sabotage the process right away. So it might be difficult to get started and gain any traction.

For example, say the reality I wanted to create was that of being a millionaire.

To achieve this, I’d want to imagine that I was a millionaire and feel the good feelings I’d feel when I was being that person.

But chances are, my mind would say, ‘No way. That’s BS! You’re not a millionaire.’

Worse still, my mind would come up with all the reasons why this wasn’t true and all the reasons why it couldn’t happen.

And so, my dreams of being a millionaire would be dead in the water before they ever had a chance to take flight.

This is where the ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ game comes in handy.

Instead of directly asserting the reality we want as already complete, we start off by saying ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’ at the start of it.

For example, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if I was a millionaire?’ or ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if I was at my ideal bodyweight?’

Approaching the creative process from this angle has two huge benefits:

It starts the creative mind off in the right direction.

But, more importantly, since we’re playing ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’, it won’t trigger our internal BS meter. And so, and our minds won’t chime in with the usual objections.

For this reason, it’s a fantastic place to start if you feel you have a lot of resistance from within, to the changes you want to create.

    Scripting

Scripting is the practice of writing down what you want, as if it has already happened.

It’s like visualisation but in written form.

It’s particularly helpful if you’re more of a verbal person than a visual person.

Also, the act of writing forces you to focus your attention in ways that might feel more familiar to most of us.

I have found it much easier to script than to visualise and it may be that you’re the same. So definitely give it a try.

Start by imagining yourself as already having what you want or as already living the life you want and then make statements about it that feel true and good to you.

For example, say you’re a guy and you’ve gained weight and want to get back to your ideal bodyweight, you could write down something along the following lines:

    • I love being at my ideal bodyweight.
    • I love being able to wear my favourite clothes.
    • I love how good I look in my clothes.
    • It feels great to move around in my light and athletic body.
    • I love receiving compliments from my friends and family about how good I look.

You get the picture… play around and have fun with this and see how it works out for you.

    Prayer

This is a time-honoured and proven method for creating a new reality. Whether it is for healing, peace or prosperity, prayer has brought blessings and miracles to millions of people over the ages.

Since prayer is usually linked to religion, it is not something I’m qualified to speak on. But at the same time, it’s too important to leave out of this list of processes.

Most people are already familiar with prayer as a form of contacting or communing with the Divine.

So, the only point I’d like to make here is that our prayers might be more effective, if it they are prayers of thanks for the blessing of having what we want come true (in advance), and feeling the feelings of gratitude, rather than a simple plea for what we want.

This is because giving thanks, assumes and affirms that it is already done, whereas a plea for something assumes and affirms that it is absent.

Since the Law of Attraction is part of the Divine power, it will respond to our feelings and bring more of what we’re feeling about.

We will therefore receive more absence and lack of what we’re praying for, if our prayers are framed as requests or pleas.

    Gregg Braden and ‘Feeling-Based Prayer’

I came across the above idea about prayer through the work of Gregg Braden, author of the ‘Divine Matrix’ and other wonderful books. He calls this mode of prayer ‘Feeling-based prayer.’

He relates a story of accompanying his Native American friend to the desert to pray rain, during a time of drought.

This friend taught him that if he prayed ‘for rain,’ that it wouldn’t rain. Because praying ‘for’ something, acknowledges that it doesn’t already exist.

His friend said that instead, he

‘…began to feel the feelings of what it felt like to have rain…’

And that he smelt the smells of what it would smell like to have rain fall on the walls of their buildings.

Lastly, he said that he felt what it would feel like to have the rain and the mud on his naked feet, as he stood in the rain.

Gregg Braden ends the story by saying how it had actually rained that night!

This way of praying is something echoed in the teachings of Neale Donald Walsch, who wrote the ‘Conversations With God’ series of books.

He writes in Book I of the series,

‘The correct prayer is therefore never a prayer of supplication, but a prayer of gratitude. When you thank God in advance for that which you choose to experience in your reality, you, in effect, acknowledge that it is there…’

Both Gregg Braden and Neale Donald Walsch are two wonderful human beings and two great teachers. So I recommend you study their work and also try this method of prayer.

As I said at the outset, there are countless processes and techniques for creating the reality you desire and it’s beyond the scope of this post to provide an exhaustive list.

But I hope you find the above helpful, as a starting place, and that you’ll be led to your ideal process in time.

  • How to Create A Happier World

How to Create A Happier World

This is a topic to which entire libraries would need to be devoted, and tackling it is probably a fool’s errand. But here I am…

And so, I ask for your patience while I do my very best to still deliver something useful and sensible within the confines of this short post.

With that said, let’s get back to the subject of creating a happier world.

To start with, I’d like to tell you that there’s good news, and lots of it! But there’s also some bad news.

    The Good News

The good news is that, at least from my honest perspective, this is entirely doable. It’s well within our power to create a happier world.

And it doesn’t require that we take on the heavy burden of fixing all of the world’s problems.

All that is required is that we change ourselves.

    And that’s the bad news.

    The Bad News

Not only is personal change incredibly hard at times, but there is no finish line.

The minute you think you’ve gotten somewhere, something comes along and you find that you’re back to square one! And you have to be ok with that and be willing to show up and keep trying.

For these reasons, I’ve found that it’s much easier to advise others and tell them what to do than it is to change myself!

    More Good News

Jokes aside, while change can be hard sometimes, the good news is that we still can change. It’s never beyond our ability or ever too late for anyone.

And since the ‘change’ we’re talking about here is becoming happier as a person, the pay off is that we get to be happier, more often.

Not only that, this will have the knock on effect of improving every aspect of our lives, including our health and relationships.

So, it is by far the most worthwhile and rewarding thing that anyone can do for themselves and others.

    But where do we start?

    Change Starts from Within

To create a happier world, we only need to become happier individuals.

    Let me explain…

In a previous post entitled How Reality Works and Why We Fail, I explained that our outer world is a reflection of our inner world, that we’re all aspects of the One Consciousness and how we’re all connected to all of creation.

Therefore, when we change on the inside, we not only change ourselves, we change all of creation.

And so, to change the world, we only need to change ourselves. And that too, only at an inner level, to begin with.

In time, these changes will automatically come to be reflected in our outer reality.

Not only that, since the Law of Attraction adds momentum to everything, it will create a snowball effect that causes even more positive changes.

And thus, planetary transformation is inevitable, when we begin to change ourselves.

This is probably why the Sufi poet Rumi said:

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

In the coming posts, I will share more insights relating to happiness and inner transformation, and also some processes to help create more happiness in your life.

Until then, take care and do whatever you can to make yourself happier, because you now know that when you do this, you’re helping to create a happier world for everyone!

  • The Law of Attraction

    The Law of Attraction

‘The law of attraction is most understood when you see yourself as a magnet getting more and more of the way you feel.’
    –Abraham and Hicks

There is just one more topic we must explore before we can move on to consider how we can deliberately change and influence our reality.

That is: the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction is a spiritual ‘law’ that has been expressed in different ways throughout the ages.

The adage that ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ is one of the more common ways in which this idea is expressed.

    The Algorithm Analogy

An easy to way to understand what the Law of Attraction is and how it works is to look to the world of computers.

The Law of Attraction is like an algorithm that helps to organise things within our physical reality.

And just like the algorithms on social platforms, the Law of Attraction gives/shows us more of whatever we’re engaging with or giving our attention to.

    The Law of Vibration

This is yet another spiritual law and states that, ‘Everything is in a state of vibration’.

This idea becomes clearer if you replace the word ‘vibration’ with ‘energetic signal’ or ‘frequency’.

So while everything and everyone in the universe is emitting an energetic signal or frequency, the Law of Attraction matches up those that are alike and brings them together–very much like a match-making service.

Our vibration or frequency is an energetic signature of who we are–our state of consciousness, and who we’re being at any given moment. And so, it can vary from moment to moment and from subject to subject.

    HowThe Law of Attraction Works

It all begins with our thoughts. When we think a thought, another thought like it joins that thought. And as long as we remain focussed, more and more thoughts of a like nature gather together.

Once we reach a critical point of sustained thought, we begin to experience manifestations based on that thought.

At first, it could be just a feeling.

Then, it could be an impulse to act.

At the same time, we’d also see examples of what we have been thinking about, or we’d see people, places, things and events relating to it.

These could be the synchronicities and meaningful ‘coincidences’ we often experience.

And if the momentum continues for long enough, we begin to experience directly, the things we have been thinking and feeling about.

The following points will help to further clarify how this works in practice:

    Attention

Just like an algorithm on a social media channel, the Law of Attraction serves up more and more of what we pay attention to. I mentioned this before but it bears repeating as it is so important and yet so often overlooked.

The key word here is attention.

And we get more of what we give our attention to–whether it is what we say we want or what we don’t want.

Eventually, our attention draws the object of our attention into our experience. And the cycle continues as long as we continue to focus our attention on whatever it was.

So if we want things to change, we have to change where we focus out attention.

And it doesn’t matter if we’re focussing our attention deliberately or unconsciously (through habit), the Law is always working and delivering the corresponding results in a consistent way.

    Feelings

It is said that more than just our mere thoughts, it’s our feelings (positive or negative) that determine our vibration and the signal we’re emitting.

This makes sense because sustained and focussed thought of any nature will evoke a feeling within us.

So we get to experience more of what we feel strongly about–positive or negative!

The Law of Attraction In Practice

As humans, we’re always thinking and feeling. And so, we’re always emitting a signal. And the Law of Attraction is always responding.

But we’re often thinking about what we don’t want. And we’re also thinking mainly about the lack or absence of what we do want.

    A Spiral of Unnecessary Suffering

Since most of us tend to think about what we don’t want, we get more of it, and we also get more lack and absence of what we want.

The cycle continues and we go on suffering, creating misery for ourselves and others.

It’s a shame because all of this is unnecessary.

Why create the same thing over and over again, when we have the power to change our thoughts?

And why continue to suffer, when we have so much freedom to choose what we focus our attention on?

Why, create misery for ourselves and others, when we possess the ability to change our beliefs?

    Breaking the Cycle

Breaking the cycle is simple, but not not necessarily easy: we must begin to consciously use our power, so we can get more of what we do want. A happier world demands that we do.

And so, this is another fundamental shift that humanity has to make at this time in order to graduate to Human 2.0.

We can’t create a happier world by pushing against what we don’t want.

We’re not going to get there by hating or complaining.

And we’re not going to get there by dwelling on the bad news and negative programming that is constantly fed to us.

We have to learn to be the calm at the centre of every storm.

We have to learn to focus doggedly on what we do want to see and experience, regardless of what is going on around us.

As you can appreciate, this can be incredibly hard to do. And for most of us, it means a 180 degree change in our orientation.

It’s something we have never been taught to do, but it’s what we have to learn to do now, if we truly want change.

When we do, we’ll enjoy the happiness that comes from knowing true peace and security. And the world will be a happier and more peaceful place as a result.

In the next post, we will look at the ways in which we can harness the power of our intention and the Law of Attraction to create a happier world.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to learn more about the Law of Attraction and how you can use it to enhance your life, I strongly recommend the resources linked below.
